My introduction to Esteban

We arrived to the church that partners with Compassion for project ES844 in La Union.

I frantically searched the crowd for the face I knew.

And then the faces came closer.

But Esteban wasn’t there yet.

I met the church Pastor on the way in.  This man has obviously been on this planet a while now.  He could choose to serve whoever he wants.  And he has chosen to put special emphasis on children.  He has chosen well.  Pray for there to be more like him.

It seems there is some kind of special event on today.

Oh! There he is. The official presentation of the child to the sponsor.

I had to try to get all that stuff out of his hands so I could give him a hug.

That’s better.

A child shall lead them, some of the Compassion kids lead us in prayer and song.

Esteban in celebration.

Esteban shows us his weapon of choice.  Amigos por siempre – Friends Forever

Esteban then sings us a song.

And then proceeds to preach the Word.  He’s only just turned 10 and I can confirm this: he is not shy.

Esteban talked to us about a passage in Psalms which encourages us to worship God with everything.  He had no idea that I was going to give a CD to their project called ‘Con Todo’ (With Everything).  Con Todo is the latest Español CD from my church Hillsong.

After the welcome ceremony we had family pictures taken.  Here’s one of those pictures where we are all looking at different cameras.

The child immediately to the left of me is also sponsored.  Tell your friends, he may be their child.

We captured a few more faces in Project ES844 so look out for my next post: ‘The faces of ES844’.
